The second OUTSIDELEFT NIGHT OUT proudly presents Millicent Chapanda along with the Germa Adan Trio at Bearwood’s Why Not Coffee on Saturday, 1st February, 2020.
Mbira musician Millicent Chapanda is on a vibrant mission to bring the lived experience of women in Zimbabwe onto international world music stages. She has previously performed as a solo artist or with her duo, ‘Sisters in Mbira’ and in different collaborative projects. Millicent has performed at the Moseley Folk & Arts Festival, Afrika Festival Hertme, Birmingham’s Symphony Hall (THSH), Shambala Festival and most recently in Bearwood supporting Bearwood Action for Refugees at the torchlight procession through Warley Woods.
Germa Adan’s musical journey is no less incredible. Born in Haiti, Germa was raised in the creole soaked southern states of the USA. Germa melds her folk roots with historical British folk melodies to create her sonically unique, and critically acclaimed, sound. Her 2017 LP, Kenbe Fèm is a record of indelibly rare beauty, establishing her as an esoteric, gentle force on the folk scene.
