As the run-up to Christmas picks up pace, this Saturday Bearwood is buzzing.
From 10am- 4pm at Bearwood Baptist Church the Crafty Muthas host the first of their two Xmas Craft Fairs. In addition to the usual vast array of handmade goods, there will also be food and a chance for people to find out how to help the Smethwick Foodbank.
One of the new stalls this year at the Fair will be an opportunity to buy some of the excellent photo prints, calendars and framed pictures by Bearwood photographer Simon Lea!
Also on Saturday it is Sam's Winter Party at Webb's Walled Garden between 10.30 and 5.30. As well as Webb's wide variety of wares, ideal Xmas gifts and stocking fillers, there's Charlie's Mom's Chocolate Factory, Urban Herbs, Samantha's cakes and music from singing group Dynamix. As Sam says…”As usual, it's free to come in, free mulled wine, mince pies, hot caramel apple vodka…it's our little thank you to our customers old and new!”
And then, at 4pm just down the road from Webb's there's a chance to celebrate the re-opening of the Abbey pub. Under threat of demolition when property developers bought it, regulars and the local community rallied round, organised a petition, a public demonstration, and registered the building as an Asset of Community Value with the help of pub campaigners CAMRA, to save the listed building as a pub.
They were rewarded when the developers sold the pub to a family who want to run it as a bar and grill, so come along and give the new owners a warm Bearwood welcome on Super Saturday!
