First World War exhibition

There is an exhibition commemorating the 1st World War tomorrow between 10am and 3pm and again next Saturday at St Mary's Church Hall. Should be good.

    Two war heroes at different times lived in Poplar Road Bearwood……Herbert James VC, who won his medal at Gallipoli in 1915 in The Great War and who was also a teacher at Bearwood Rioad School. He also lived for a time in Three Shires Oak Road and ended his days in the 1950’s in Australia.

    Viscount General William ‘Bill’ Slim, leader of the ‘Forgotten Army’ who won the Burma Campaign which prevented Japan from invading and annexing India which may have precipitated the fall of the British Empire and in turn may have led to Britain losing the Second World War….

    Great war heroes of Bearwood both………
