An early snifter….

Some friends of The Midland had a sneak preview last night, and the comments were universally positive.

Best of luck today to Richard and Morwenna, and to Black Country Ales who are showing that by opening pubs when others are closing all around them, they must be doing something right.

I was lucky enough to be invited last night – I loved what they’ve done and thoroughly recommend the people of Bearwood check it out! A great community pub.

I went to The Midland last night and was amazed how packed it was for a Wednesday night, notwithstanding that it is new and Bearwood folk want to check out Bearwood’s latest addition.

Richard and Morwenna mine hosts made us feel welcome and even had time to chat even though they were incredibly busy.

I had a pint of Black Country Ales mild: Pig on the Wall, which was excellent and a pint of their Porter (a not so dense stout) which was good but not as good as The Pig on the Wall.

I saw local political denizen Councillor Bob Piper in there and congratulated him on helping to bring this great addition to Bearwood, his colleagues on the Sandwell Council Planning Committee at least, for not listening to the naysayers and the doom-mongers who said this new pub would bring trouble…..not a sign of any problems last night.

I would urge Bearwoodians to pay The Midland a visit……you won’t be disappointed!

Oh and by the way the Pork Scratchings were excellent and better than the ones purveyed at my social club, another paragon for Real Ales, Somers Sports and Social Club in Haleswowen…..

I shall be torn between the two mild ales on offer at the respective establishments, the Batham’s Mild on offer at Somers and the Pig on the Wall mild at The Midland……….

    What a choice to have!

Thanks to all for your lovely comments. We are thrilled that so many people came in on Wednesday and said such good things about the pub. We hope you liked the viewing cellar in the old strong room which took a team of hefty builders weeks to break into! Those old films showing bank robbers doing so with ease are nonsense! From all at Black Country Ales.
