Dear Friends of Lightwoods Park and House,
The annual May Day Festival at Lightwoods Park is taking place on Bank Holiday Monday 5th May and will run 11.00am – 6.00pm.
Please see the Festival flyer below.
The festival will host a variety of activities including a stage with live music – we have a fantastic line up this year and hopefully a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy.
The bandstand will be bustling with a ukulele band, morris and bhangra dancing and brass bands.
There will be a skate, scooter and bmx competition/jam taking place in the skate park area (being organised by our very own Tom Naylor) and Sandwell’s Strongest Man Competition will be taking place on the Bowling Green. The day will also feature a fun fair, a children's entertainment corner including Punch and Judy and magician shows as well as circus skills workshops, there will be woodland craft workshops for all to see and get involved in, lots of refreshments and of course….more toilets, loads of market stalls and a Real Ale Festival hosted by Enville Ales and Black Country Ales!

We are currently looking for lots of volunteers to help out with a number of things both prior to and during the event, namely:
- Between 8.00am and 11.00am:
– Setting up the event – marquees, tables and chairs, fencing barriers.
- Between 11.00am and 6.00pm:
– Event stewarding – to include stage area, real ale area, skate park area and bandstand area, litter picking, and assisting Sandwell Council staff with manning event control.
- Between 6.00pm and 8.00pm:
– Assisting with the event pack down.
Can you volunteer to assist us? Any time you have spare would be very helpful. If you would like to help out please could you call or email me using the contacts below and let me know what times you would be available. If you wish to volunteer please sign in with a member of Council staff (in yellow high vis jackets) at event control which will be situated in the navy blue marquee next to the stage.
If you need to drive to the event and wish to volunteer I will issue you with a car parking pass for the extension field as there will be traffic wardens in operation on the day ticketing people for parking in no parking areas which will be marked out on the day (residents who bound the park and who may be affected by this will be notified and issued passes prior to the event). The traffic management will be improved this year so as to try and minimise disruption to the neighbours of the park.
I hope you have a fantastic May Day and once again, I would like to thank you for your support and assistance with everything we do at Lightwoods Park. The house and park restoration project is developing nicely and I will be in touch with you all soon regarding a consultation briefing before work starts on site in October!
