…and a competition to follow shortly!
The former HSBC Bank at 526 Bearwood Road has been granted a premises licence and can now be turned into a real ale pub. Refurbishment has started and it is hoped that the new pub will open by early July.
Over 70 residents of Bearwood contacted Sandwell Council to express support for the planned alteration.
Angus McMeeking of Black Country Ales said: “We are very grateful to the many local residents who spoke in favour of a new pub to bring a grand old building back into use and provide more choice for drinkers on Bearwood Road. At the same time we are very aware that some local residents are concerned that a new pub must not bring with it problems of anti-social behaviour. We shall do our utmost to ensure that the new pub is an asset to the area and does not cause issues of noise, litter etc. As a company we run pubs that champion real ales in a traditional English pub atmosphere. We hope that our pub will be the sort of place to go for a quiet drink, to unwind from daily life and enjoy the conversation and company of others.”
Angus also promises an exciting competition relating to the new pub…with a super prize. Details will be announced on the Bearwood Blog in the next few days, so keep your eyes peeled.

Congratulations, Hazel, your comment is the 2,000th comment on the Bearwood Blog since we began publishing 5 years ago.
Actually, when you look around you at things like the Bearwood Handmade, Warley Woods, the multi-million pound Lightwoods project, the Bearwood Pantry, some of our great little independent shops, Bearwood has a whole lot of good things happening.
Excellent news & if it’s half as good as The Craven Arms I’ll be a regular visitor.👍
