May Day real ale festival

The Friends of Lightwoods Park are delighted to announce that they have partnered with the award winning Black Country brewery Enville Ales again this year as the main providers of ale to the May Day beer festival.

Friends Group chair Richard Marshall said, “This is fantastic news because Enville were our partners last year and they put on a great show. In addition to a number of their own award winning ales Enville are expected to join with another brewery to provide a wide range of beers, but also more cider than we had last year, and some wines.

“This year we are applying for a licence which will include a family area, where folk will be able to take their drinks through to. Although no under 18's will be allowed in the serving area, and a strict id protocol will apply for people who look under 25, we are aware that last year because people couldn't take their drinks in to the main park it divided families. To get round this we will have a separate fenced off area where beer can be taken in to which family groups will be able to access.”

Last year's event passed off so peacefully it is not anticipated there will be any problem with obtaining a licence this year.

What happened to the proposed support for the Bearwood Mayday Beer Festival in Lightwoods Park from Black Country Ales, the folk behind the conversion of the Midland Bank on Bearwood Road into one of their ‘Real Ale’ venues……?

Brilliant day out at the Bearwood May Day Festival…..had some great Black Country Ales and a fantastic time listening to the ‘Reggae tribute’ of Musical Youth’s Dennis Seaton…..We are gonna miss the Bearwood May Day Festival for the next couple of years while Lightwoods Park and House is upgraded with the £5.3 million of Heritage Lottery Funding…….shame! Great day for Bearwood and Lightwoods Park………………!!!!!!

  4. Nice to see the progress being made at Lightwoods Park and House with the bridge in place and the house coming on a treat…..

I can’t wait for the house to be finished and handed over to Community use……and while I am on can I heartily recommend The Midland pub in Bearwood Road opposite the Co-op…..

I had a pint of New Zealand Stout called ‘Stab in the Dark’ with a 5% ABV last Saturday and it was like the Nectar of the Gods…..

More power to the elbow of Richard Parling, landlord of The Midland and his boss, my old Dixonians Rugby mate Angus McMeeking, Managing Director of Black Country Ales.

The Midland is a fantastic addition to Bearwood, along with the newly-opened Windsor Theatre Bar at the Sandwell Snooker Centre, which older Bearwood folk will know as ‘The Windsor’ or the ‘old ice rink’…..Bearwood’s first ‘TAPAS’ Bar…….Brill for Bearwood in my opinion!
