Holocaust Memorial Day in Sandwell

A special public event to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day will be held at the Memorial Gardens in West Bromwich on Sunday 26 January.

The ceremony will be led by Sandwell Mayor, Councillor Linda Horton and there will also be the laying of wreaths with words from human rights and respect organisations.

The ceremony will start at 10.30am at the Memorial Gardens, Highfields, off High Street, West Bromwich, and followed by a march by veterans' associations.

Councillor Horton said: “This important ceremony is our way of getting together to mark this special day.

“We join together to pay our respects to all those who lost their lives. It also gives the community the opportunity to pledge to work together now and in the future against any hatred, prejudice and discrimination.”

The theme of this year's Holocaust Memorial Day is Journeys, exploring different types of journeys experienced by people who suffered under Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides.
